What PEI does to a building
Wind and salt, almost everywhere on the island, plus a permitting process with two separate steps.
The coast, which is most of the island
Salt off the Gulf and the Northumberland Strait works on ordinary galvanized steel. Island builds get an aluminium-zinc coating as a matter of course rather than as an upgrade.
Wind and snow together
Sustained Gulf wind with maritime snow accumulation means both cases matter. Bracing is designed for the wind and the purlins for the snow, rather than one being traded against the other.
Damp air year-round
Thermal breaks and vapour control are worth specifying up front. A building that sweats inside through an island winter is one that was insulated as an afterthought.

Getting it to your site
Three to four weeks via the Confederation Bridge into the Charlottetown and Summerside corridors once drawings are approved. Points east toward Souris and west toward Tignish are quoted route by route. Bridge transit is part of the freight plan and included in the quote.

Do I need one permit or two?
PEI commonly requires both a development permit for land use and a building permit for the structure. Charlottetown, Stratford and Summerside handle their own; rural properties generally go through the province. Confirm which applies to you before ordering.
Do you deliver across the bridge?
Yes. Confederation Bridge transit is part of the freight plan and is included in the quote rather than added afterwards.
Can I put the building up myself?
Most of our customers do, or they hire a local crew. The frame bolts together and ships with a full drawing set, and we can point you to installers on the island.
Will it rust in island air?
Not if it is specified properly. Island builds use an aluminium-zinc coated steel rather than plain galvanized, which holds up far better in salt air and outlasts a wooden frame in this climate.
